The latest stop in the Restaurant Diet series is one of Mayfair’s newest hotspots, Sexy Fish.
It opened in 2015 and ever since all of the usual famous faces have been seen there at some point or another. Despite the instant hype and fanfare over its decor and vibe, I couldn’t help but notice no-one had really been raving about the food.
While I had already accepted it would be overpriced and full of stuffy wealthy types, I still couldn’t resist going to see what the fuss is about for myself.
WHERE: Berkeley Square House, Berkeley Square W1J 6BR
Located in the same area as Nobu, Annabel’s, Novikov and more other swanky restaurants than I have time to mention, Sexy Fish is perfectly situated near Green Park station.
This is an important detail for a girl like myself who likes to know she doesn’t have to totter around in heels for too long before she can sit down and warm up.
I read a review which claimed the food is forgettable and I completely agree. Some aspects of the meal fail to leave a mark so much that I’ve kinda forgetten when we had.
*I forgot to make notes, but I usually never do. Oh dear! *
Whether it’s because they offer all the same basic options that you can get at any other mid/upmarket Asian fusion restaurant, I’m not quite sure. But there are some standout aspects that I will mention because they deserve the praise.
The Pin-Up Colada made our short wait at the bar very nice indeed, while the scallops and the wok-fried shrimp noodles were also pretty tasty compared to other items we ordered to share.
But dessert is where my tastebuds came alive thanks to the Four Chocolate & Praline Fondant. Quite simply, it is a MUST HAVE!
Honestly, if you order just one thing on the whole menu then this should be it. I literally had to stop myself from drooling over every single spoonful.
I was treated to my meal at the restaurant by a dear friend to celebrate my 27th birthday and if it wasn’t a place we both really wanted to tick off the list, I think I would have stopped her and chosen somewhere else.
However, I am so glad I finally got to step inside and enjoy the opulence of it all.
From the Frank Gehry and Damien Hirst art pieces to the amazing selfie-friendly loos, Sexy Fish is a place that makes you feel fancy and to pretend you live a much swankier life than you actually do.
Plus, that Four Chocolate & Praline Fondant really is BOMB.
